The R. Bruce Kershner Company has been approved by the Construction Industry Licensing Board (CILB) as a continuing education provider since 2004. He was the first continuing education provider approved for a classroom instructor-led course for contractors who received as part of their discipline to attend a seven (7) hour live classroom course with emphasis on Chapter 489, F.S.

Any person who holds a certified or registered license issued by the CILB must, as a condition of each renewal of the certificate or registration, obtain at least 14 hours of continuing education in one or more courses from a continuing education provider approved by the board. Of the 14 hours, the licenseholder must have one hour in the following topics:
  • Workplace safety
  • Business practices
  • Workers' compensation
  • Advanced building code module
  • Laws & rules (regulating the construction industry)
  • Wind mitigation (This requirement only affects general, residential, building, roofing and glass and glazing contractors.)
R. Bruce Kershner holds a State Certified Underground Utility & Excavation Contractor license, State Certified Residential Contractor license and an Orange County Class A Certificate of Competency for Underground Utilities. He is also a registered lobbyist in Tallahassee. Mr. Kershner regularly attends CILB meetings and assists contractors with licensing requirements.

Safety
Competent Person Training Seminar

Number of Hours: Eight (8) includes one hour of workplace safety requirement.
Course Description: This course is designed for the employee who will be at the excavation site and have the authority to control safety on the job. Attendees are taught the basics of OSHA's Excavation regulations (29 CFR 1926, Subpart P), learn soil testing, use soil information to determine the correct protective system needed and learn to identify the hazards associated with trenching.
 
Competent Person Refresher Course
Course Number: 0608702
Number of Hours: Four (5) includes one hour of workplace safety requirement and business practices.
Course Description: This course is designed for individuals who have successfully completed the Competent Person Training Program. The seminar will focus on the general requirements (hazards associated with excavation) and the duties of the competent person.
 
Confined Space Entry Program

Number of Hours: Five (5) includes one hour of workplace safety requirement.
Course Description: This course is designed for basic information regarding entry into confined spaces, create an awareness of the hazards associated with confined spaces through identification, evaluation and control of the work and work environment, including identifying permit required spaces, attendant and entrant requirements. 
 
Construction Outreach Training
Course Description: This 10 hour program is meant to provide an introduction to OSHA's construction industry safety and health standards. The program is designed for first line supervisors and others responsible for construction operations. The objective is to provide participants with basic knowledge and understanding of how to use and interpret OSHA construction safety and health standards.
* This course IS NOT approved for continuing education hours.

Course Description: This course is designed to provide an overview of the Florida Construction Lien Law, Chapter 713, Part I, Florida Statutes. Attendees will also learn about the general scheme of Florida’s Construction Lien Law, lienable services and materials, who is entitled to a construction lien law in Florida, compliance with Florida’s construction lien law, bonded projects release and waivers of liens, perfecting a claim by filing a lawsuit and disciplinary action and criminal penalties.

Anti-Terrorism Blast Mitigation

Number of Hours: One (1) includes one hour of business practices requirement. Course Description: This course is designed to educate contractors on good glass and glazing blast mitigation practices. Additional topics to be discussed are engineering criteria, federal codes and proper installation of systems.
